Ryan Bowen, PhD
Post Doctoral Researcher
B.S. Biomedical Engineering, University of Rochester
Ph.D. Washington University in St. Louis
A neuroscientist with backgrounds in neuroplasticity, stroke, neuroimaging, and biomedical engineering, Ryan’s research interests center around the application of cutting edge wide-field optical imaging. He uses this powerful tool to investigate patterns of neuronal activity that predict recovery after stroke, as well as to examine neurovascular coupling changes in disease states.

Tamara Abou-Antoun, PhD
Sr. Scientist, Hope Center Surgery Core
Adjunct Professor, Biomedical Sciences
B.S. Biomedical Sciences, Victoria University; Melbourne, Australia
Ph.D. Molecular Medicine, George Washington University
Tamara earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Biomedical Sciences from Victoria University in Melbourne, Australia and her PhD in Molecular Medicine from the George Washington University in Washington DC, where she explored the mechanisms of medulloblastoma migration and invasion. She then worked as a post-doctoral fellow under the supervision of Professor Anthony Sandler at Children’s National Hospital in Washington DC, exploring the mechanisms of pediatric neuroblastoma stem cell resistance to therapeutic intervention. After that she joined the Faculty of the School of Pharmacy at the Lebanese American University in Byblos, Lebanon where she taught and coordinated courses in biomedical sciences including medical anatomy and physiology, pathophysiology, immunology and cancer biology. She also mentored graduate and medical students on their pediatric neuro-oncology research projects. Tamara joined WashU School of Medicine in March of 2021 as a Senior Scientist and Adjunct Professor of Biomedical Sciences. During her free time, Tamara enjoys oriental dancing and the outdoors with her family and friends, hiking, biking, swimming, camping, canoeing and playing tennis.
Ricardo D’Oliveira Albanus, PhD
Instructor, Neurology
BSc in Biology – Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil
MSc in Biochemistry – Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil
PhD in Bioinformatics – University of Michigan, Dept. of Computational Medicine & Bioinformatics
Ricardo is a biologist with a PhD in Bioinformatics from the University of Michigan. His research interests are understanding aging and complex diseases from a molecular biology viewpoint. He is especially interested in mapping the interface between genetics and gene regulation, which requires him to be proficient in integrating multiple layers of functional genomics information (genomic, epigenomic, and transcriptomic) at the bulk and single-cell levels. In addition to doing science, Ricardo is excited about teaching and supporting other trainees. Outside the lab, you will find him playing the piano, running in Forest Park, nature watching, and hiking.
